" Firefighters Love Kids" Goal: To work with local fire departments and Smart Start to bring fire safety education and books to young children.
Suggested Ways to Participate: (1) Donate age-appropriate books on fire safety, fire stations or firefighters to preschools, childcare centers, and libraries. (2) Arrange for a firefighter to attend a preschool, childcare center, or library to read a book to the group and present the book to each child in attendance. (3) Organize a “Visit the Fire Station” date for a preschool, childcare center or other group and present a book on fire safety, fire stations or firefighters to each child in attendance. (4) Sponsor an arts contest using the project theme "Firefighters Love Kids". Give ribbons for prize with all children receiving a ribbon for participating. (5) Post activities on social media using hashtag #gfwcncdistrict7
If you need help with Smart Start or locating an age-appropriate group, contact Polly Russ or if you need help working with your local fire department, contact Anna Katherine Faulk.
Projects and programs completed for this project should be reported by your club to GFWC-NC. These projects and programs may be reported under Civic Engagement and Outreach CSP, Education and Libraries CSP or GFWC Junior Special Project: Advocacy for Children.

Climate- Advocacy-Resiliency-Education-Sustainability
Through this special project, we hope to educate those in North Carolina on how they can, in their individual homes and communities, help lessen the impacts of climate change and advocate for broader changes throughout the state and country. We will be partnering with two organizations:
Envision Charlotte – helping Charlotte achieve its goal to become a circular economy through zero waste objectives and reuse of all products. North Carolina Conservation Network – advocating for policies to help combat climate change throughout the state and making positive changes to the environment through their large network of affiliate organizations.Join us by fostering a safe and bright future in North Carolina by supporting these environmental efforts!

This one-time scholarship is awarded based on the candidate’s character, scholastic records, evidence of intellectual promise, demonstration of ambition, leadership ability, and need for financial assistance.
Applicant must be present for judging and presentation of the scholarship at the time and place designated.
Applicant must be a resident of North Carolina and must be a member of a senior class in an accredited North Carolina School.
Applicant must be in the upper fourth of the their gradating class.
Applicant must use the official application form (or copies of) published in the Forms sections of the current GFWC-NC Administration Book.
The scholarship is to be used at a four-year college or university in the state of North Carolina.
